In the Company of All: Prayers from Sunday Mornings at St. Cuthbert’s

The St. Thomas Poetry Series
ISBN 978-1-928095-02-6

[ freely adapted from James Dekker (“Praying Through All Seasons” Christian Courier, April 9, 2017) ]
John has been composing prayers for years as his turn came to offer the congregational prayer in St. Cuthbert’s Presbyterian Church. These prayers cover the congregation’s waterfront of thanks, praise, blessings and petitions, often also including local and national events. Is it that The One Addressed has agreed mysteriously to embrace all those events, along with our doubts about how The One Addressed handles them?

James Dekker (“In the Company of All: Prayers from Sunday Mornings at St. Cuthbert’s by John Terpstra” Banner, March 17, 2017) “Terpstra’s tone is awe-filled, generous, and sometimes laced with sly humor: “You have put a song in our mouths/you have multiplied, O Earth-maker/your surprising deeds/your kind thoughts toward us/if we were to count them all/we’d be late for lunch.””
